2017 – Make Room
Make Room for Greatness

We sometimes find it so easy to believe in others’ ability to achieve great things in life. Whether it be a pro athlete, singer, preacher, or friend for that matter, we can see them doing great things and we have the confidence that they can do it, no matter the circumstances. Greatness, or the ability to be great, is something that we can quickly recognize in others; it seems so evident, so clear. Yet when we look at our own lives, we tend to focus mostly on the flaws and shortcomings that seem to create a barrier between us and the greatness God has for us. Countless reasons why we can’t: “I’m not smart enough, not good enough, not skilled enough, not tall enough”; the list goes on and on. What you need to do is make room for greatness in your life by coming to a very clear reality… it’s not about you. The greatness that God has called you to has very little to do with your qualifications, your skills, or your deservedness. God’s greatness happens when we get out of the way. When we think about David, we easily recognize his greatness now, as a great warrior, a great King, a great man after God’s own heart. But let us not forget where David’s journey began. David was a shepherd boy who loved God and was pretty good at flinging rocks. That is not exactly what anyone would call a world class resume… but God. God will use your simple abilities to bring greatness into your life. All He requires is your faith and obedience.

Today’s Scripture

“Great is the Lord and most worthy of praise; His greatness no one can fathom.” – Psalm 145:3 (NIV)

Tip from Adam

When David went out to face Goliath, he did not wear the armor of the king. We can’t go through life comparing ourselves to others or trying to be someone or something that we are not. God created you on purpose, for purpose, just the way you are. Embrace who He has called YOU to be, give Him what YOU have, and HE will make it GREAT!

Study Suggestions

When we first meet David, we realize that he was not on anyone’s radar, including his own fathers! Read 1 Samuel, Chapter 16, and be encouraged. Even if everyone else seems to overlook you, God knows exactly where you are.
