2020 – 21 Days of Prayer & Fasting
It’s What We Do

When you give…

“So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full.” Matthew 6:2 (NIV)

When you pray…

“And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full.” Matthew 6:5 (NIV)

When you fast…

“When you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show others they are fasting. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full.” Matthew 6:16 (NIV)

We are entering our annual series that we call, “It’s what we do.” If you are new to Victory Church, this is a series we do every year to recalibrate and remind ourselves of who we are as Christ-followers. If you’ve ever been in a boat with no sail and no running motor, you will find out pretty quickly that it will drift. Like a boat, when we lose our focus, when our calendars and our culture are at work, we naturally drift away from the core of who we are in Christ.

In Matthew chapter 5, we see the well-known, “Sermon on the Mount,” where Jesus begins His own version of “it’s what we do.” Then in chapter 6, Jesus comes down to this point where He mentions three very specific things that we will be focusing on this month. Notice that He says, “when you….” It is as if He is assuming that you already do these things. In this moment, He is not teaching on the why, but the when. In essence, Jesus is saying, “It’s what we do!”

This month, as we walk through this season leading up to our annual Heart for the House offering on February 2nd, we will be focusing on these three things. We will fast, we will pray, and we will prepare our hearts to give as the Lord instructs.

2020 is going to be an incredible year!

Heavenly Father, as we begin our corporate fasting, we ask over these next 21 days to guide us and inspire us to a closeness with You, God, through fasting, praying, and giving. Give us eyes to see, ears to hear, a mind to understand, and a heart to believe.
